Who is the gynecological consultation service for?

The gynecological consultation service is for women who present with pelvic pain, menstrual pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, abnormal vaginal discharge, irregular cycles, or the absence of menstruation, despite a negative pregnancy test.

Cervical cancer screening (HPV test)

Cervical cancer screening is an essential preventive measure. This screening makes it possible to detect cellular changes early and to promote rapid and appropriate treatment.

The HPV test now replaces the PAP test (or PAP test), which is more accurate. The procedure for this test is essentially the same for the patient.

Who is this screening for?

This screening test is for anyone who has a cervix:

Generally between 21 and 65 years of age (according to current recommendations)
Having already had sex, regardless of the number of partners
Vaccinated or not against HPV (the vaccine does not replace screening)
With or without symptoms

How often should I be screened for cervical cancer?

For a healthy person (immunocompetent), aged 25 to 65, with a cervix: screening is recommended if no HPV test has been done in the last 5 years or no Pap test in the last 3 years.

For a person whose immune system is weakened (immunosuppressed), aged 25 to 65, with a cervix: screening is recommended if no HPV test has been done in the last 3 years or no Pap test in the last year.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes, a prescription is required for this test.

If you don't have a prescription, Prenato can provide one. Our team will then be responsible for monitoring your result.

If you have a prescription, the screening will be done and the result will be sent to your treating professional.

What is the difference between an HPV test and a Pap test?

The HPV test looks for the presence of the virus that causes cervical cancer, while the Pap test detects possible precancerous cell changes. According to the most recent medical recommendations, screening starts with an HPV test, and a Pap test is done only if certain strains of the virus are detected.

The procedure for these tests is essentially the same for both tests.

What is the best time to schedule my appointment?

If you are in menopause (12 months without periods), you can have a biopsy done at any time.

If you are not in menopause, you should schedule your biopsy between day 17 and 21 of your menstrual cycle.

Are lab tests automatically ordered?

No, the professional will only prescribe tests if your clinical situation warrants it based on their assessment and your medical history. You will then be able to have your urine test performed at one of our Prenato clinics according to our current rates.

Some urinary signs and symptoms during pregnancy may be related to pregnancy-specific conditions and may require further evaluation or testing. To ensure appropriate and safe care, we recommend that you consult the healthcare professional managing your pregnancy.
