Ectopic pregnancy: how Prenato manages it

As future parents, it can be easy to get lost with all this new vocabulary about pregnancy, even more so with specific cases. Sometimes it can happen that certain symptoms are favorable to an ectopic pregnancy.

What is an ectopic pregnancy?

This means that the gestational sac evolves outside the usual zone, that is, it is located outside the uterus. Indeed, it may be possible for the pregnancy to evolve in the fallopian tubes, in the abdomen, in the cervix or even in the uterine muscle. Whether the embryo is evolving or not, it is unfortunately impossible to continue these pregnancies. An ectopic pregnancy is considered an urgent situation and should be treated promptly.

How can an ectopic pregnancy be detected?

In some cases, ectopic pregnancy may be detected by chance during a first trimester ultrasound. However, in more frequent cases, it will be acute pelvic pain, very targeted at the level of hatreds, that will alert the future mother to consult sooner than expected. In this case, the treating doctors may request an ultrasound to be done quickly. It can be very difficult to get a seat to the public quickly, without going through an emergency. At Prenato, we will find you a place quickly, even if our schedules are full.

But what about the results?

Fortunately, at Prenato, it is possible to come and have ultrasound exams in order to detect this type of anomaly and to have effective management. We are equipped with high-quality equipment that makes it possible to obtain high-quality images and videos despite early pregnancy. In addition, our autonomous technologists are in a position to recognize the ultrasound signs suggestive of an ectopic pregnancy and are in a position to judge the urgency of the situation thanks to protocols established within our department. When it is suspected/detected, the technologist is then in a position to communicate with our specialist doctors in order to evaluate the images and be able to redirect patients to the most appropriate hospital center.

True fact: a patient presented to Prenato for suspected ectopic. Doubt was imminent during the ultrasound, the technologist obtained the official report quickly. The patient went to the emergency room with her report in hand and the report was taken care of less than one hour after the start of the examination. According to her feedback, an ectopic pregnancy in the right tube was detected and thanks to the rapid treatment, the surgeons were able to save her tube. No complications highlighted thanks to the speed of the joint care.

At Prenato, we care about the well-being of our patients, we are in a position to support you, even in the most complex cases. Numerous videos sent to our specialists make sure to reproduce a “live” effect of the examination as if they were on site, in the ultrasound room.
