The resources available for breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a great adventure, full of beautiful tender moments, challenges and, for some, questions.

The support of those around you is important and makes a big difference from the very first time you are put in the womb.

Some may want to add an external resource to their circle of support. Know that there is a wide variety of help and support that you can receive. This support can be beneficial to better prepare for breastfeeding during the prenatal period, for the initiation of breastfeeding, in times of crisis or during weaning.

Among others, there are:

- Breastfeeding godmothers: They are mothers who have breastfed who have chosen to volunteer to support other mothers. Most of the time, they benefit from basic breastfeeding training.

- League La Leche instructors: Breastfeeding mothers are also part of this internationally recognized organization. They have personal experience as well as comprehensive training to better support and protect your breastfeeding.

- Lactation consultant: Health worker who has knowledge and skills validated by certification. She is in a position to help when challenges arise. Most of the time, she works in hospitals, in community resources and sometimes at home.

- CLSC nurses: Health professional who will visit you at home following your birth. She has theoretical knowledge as well as professional expertise in breastfeeding, without having personal experience.
