Serum markers: fetal DNA offered free of charge at high risks

Prenatal screening using serum markers allows screening based on hormones produced by the fetus or placenta. In a single blood test, it is possible to know your risk of carrying a baby who is a carrier of trisomy 18 or 21. This calculation is done in probability of risk according to the age of the mother, the measurement of the nuchal translucency on the first trimester ultrasound and your blood test. When is fetal DNA offered for free?

From the outset, Prenato will offer free access to fetal DNA to pregnant women who perform a screening test using serum markers in case of high risk when reading the results. To be eligible for this offer, you will obviously need to have completed your serum marker screening in one of our clinics. You will then have access to our new fetal DNA prenatal screening test that screens for the main trisomies (13, 18 and 21), as well as the sex of the baby if you wish. If you decide to add other analyses (sex chromosomes, trisomies on all pairs of chromosomes, or certain genetic deficiencies) a fee will be added to the service.

How to access the free test

Although fetal DNA can be offered in the public network in cases of high risk, it should be noted that their Risk threshold is set to 1/300 in order to have access to it. At Prenato clinics, our risk threshold for accessing them for free is 1/2500, which increases your possibility of being referred to fetal DNA at no cost.
